My main motivation in life has been striving for improvement. I always want to make myself better in everything I do. The same applies to my professional and academic life. Wanting to understand computers, what goes into them, how they work and how to work with them made me study an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.Studying at Kisii University provided me with a strong foundation in the field of information technology. I was exposed to the various fields of Computer Science which led me to develop an interest in computer programming and data analytics. I have been interested in using my programming skills to bring change by developing mobile and web applications that solve real-world problems. I also have a Linux System Administration and an Application Security Specialists certification. For the last one year, I have been working as a Junior software developer in, AMPATH, a health institution in Kenya which seeks to provide comprehensive HIV care services through care, research, and training. Over this period I have managed to learn a lot. I have learned analyzing, planning, estimating, managing, designing, and many other skills that constitute the engineering of high-quality software systems that you can count on to be reliable, supportable, maintainable, and have the kinds of characteristics that one looks for in a professionally developed product. Also, I was tasked with automating the institution’s services through docker. My goal is to gain new skills, one that will build on my technical expertise and experience in the field of computer science. Even though my time at AMPATH has provided me with a strong foundation in the field of software development, a reputed graduate program is necessary to increase my knowledge and also to shape me into a good professional as well as researcher. After examining my interests, past training, current employment and final ambition, I have decided to pursue masters in Computer Science. I believe that I have strong dedication and motivation required for a successful career in this field. This will lead me to a career in software development, data analytics, research, and management. The graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan is suited to my goals. I believe that to be associated with this faculty would give me a great opportunity to pursue my career in software engineering and data analytics. I am confident that given an opportunity, I will be proved useful and could make a significant contribution to a going research. I look forward to joining the University of Saskatchewan as a graduate student at the Computer Science department.
